Halloween: Not for Muslimeen Print E-mail
Saturday, 29 October 2005
Halloween is arguably one of the favorite holidays for children. It allows them to dress up as their favorite character and beg for candy. The name Halloween means the evening before All Hallows or All Saints Day. While the name implies a Christian origin, its beginnings are clearly Pagan. Despite its Pagan origins, it remains practiced by people of different religious beliefs ... even Muslims ?!?!? Regardless of how Halloween originated, one thing is certain. It is not an Islamic holiday, and thus, should not be observed by Muslims. This year Halloween falls on the night of the 29th of Ramadan, which is an odd night ... a night which might possibly be Laylatul Qadr. According to the Qur'an, the Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power) is better than one thousand months, if one were to observe it in worship of Allah (swt).

It is therefore, a reminder for those of us who are Muslims, to obstain from Halloween and instead focus on our religious obligations. Eid-ul-Fitr, after all, is only a few days away.
