History of the Sahaba
by -Z.Shadow-

The Sahaba were the companions of the Prophet (SAW)! They were some of the most knowledgeable in Islam because they learned from the Prophet (SAW )himself, and taught each other what they learnt, and from there taught everyone else. I will go into further detail on how they did things via Hadiths.

The Noble Companions eagerness for Prayer & Intense effort for it.

It is reported from Ata  bin Abi Rubah that Hazrat Uthman led the people in prayer. Then stood behind the Maqam-e Ibrahim. He recited the whole of the Quran in one rak'ah. It says in Muhammad bin sirin's report Hazrat Uthman used to pray thoughout the night and finish the whole Quran in one rak'ah.

It is reported from Hazrat Mussayab bin Rafe: When Hazrat Ibn abbas lost his eyesight, a man came to him and told him that if he stop praying standing for seven days he could heal him and get his eye sight back, Abbas didn't want to give up his prayer so he remained blind. The Prophet (SAW) said the man who gives up his prayer, Allah the most Holy will meet him in such a condition that he will  be very angry with him.

Abdullah bin Masud did not fast, when he was asked why he didn't observe supererogatory fast. He said: "I like prayer more then I like fasting, when I observe fast I feel weakness while praying."

The Companions Persuasion for Knowledge.

Zaid reported that Hazrat Abdullah said pass the night in this condition, that either you are a teacher or a learner and don't pass the night in the condition that, you my be a follower of anybodies opinion.

Hazrat Ibn Masud said: Oh people! Grasp knowledge firmly before it is lifted up (i.e. people with knowlledge die) and that there will come people who will read the Quran and throw it behide their backs (i.e. reject it).

It is reported from Abdul-Ahwas that Hazrat Abdullah said that a man is not born as a divine, for knowledge comes through learning.

Hassan (R.A.) said that while addressing the people of Damasacus, Hazrat Abu-Darda said: You are filling your bellies, but you are not remembering Allah. What's the condition of your divines? They are  passing away yet your illiterates are not acquiring knowledge. If the divines had wished, their number could have increased, and if your illiterates searched for knowledge they would have found it! Adopt that which is good for you, and leave that which is harmful, By Allah! Every ummah was destroyed simply because it followed its desires and considered itself holy.

Hazrat Abud Darda said: Acquire  knowledge before it is lifted up (the passing away of the ulema). Only two people deserve to be called humans: The teacher and the learner; and there is no good among the people in  between.

Hazart Abu Zer and Hazrat Abu Haraira (R.A.) said when death comes to the student and he dies in the state of studentship,  he is a martyr.

The Knowledge of the Noble Companions

Hazrat Amr bin Aus stated he understood 1000 examples of the Messenger Muhammad (S.A.W).

Abu Wa'il stated that Hazrat Abdullah said: If Hazrat Umar's knowledge is put in one scale of a balance and the knowledge of the people will gain preference over the knowledge of all. i.e. will be weighty. Abdullah has said something much more than this. He said that, no doubt nine parts of knowledge were lifted on the day Hazrat Umar died.

Hazrat Ali: By Allah! No verses has been revealed that I do not know as to why it was revealed, where it was revealed and about which people it was revealed. Certainly my Lord has endowed  me with a heart which is intelligent, and has bestowed upon me a tongue which is eloquent.

Masruq reported that Hazrat Abdullah remarked: Should Hazrat Ibn Abbas have as much age as ours, none of us would be able to compete with him. And Nazr has added this  much in the Hadith: Hazrat Ibn Abbas is excellent in translating the Quran!

Mujahid stated that, on his abundance of knowledge the people used to call Hazrat Ibn Abbas an ocean. Ta'ous said that Hazrat Ibn Abbas had superiority in knowledge over all the other people, as a tall date-palm tree has superiority over  small plants.

Hazrat Abu  Musa  says that whenever the noble companions felt any doubt in anything, they inquired it from Ayesha (R.A.) and always found its knowledge from her.

If we study the ways of the companions it would solve many of the problems facing the ummah today!
